The tool: As you can see it is an empty table with several fields. First there is the field „Project“. Since milestones are part of larger projects, you should clarify (and it is a good starting point for thinking about your milestones) what project you are working on. You can start with a very vague name/definition of the project, but as you progress with your milestone planning, the scope of your project should get more and more concrete. The project can be a successful SIA Incubation, but through the milestones you should get a clarity what this actually means for you. The second field is „Milestones“. As discussed before, milestones should give you an indication if you have achieved your project goal and/or if you are on track of achieving it in time. Don‘t forget the SMART criteria here in the formulation of the milestones (this includes specifiying „who“ is responsible for achieving it). As you can see several milestone form a project. Third, there are „Activities“. Most milestone can be broken down into very concrete (sometimes even small) activities. Take our previous example of 30 customer discovery interviews by Aug 1. There are several activities leading up to actually achieving it: eg finding your customers, developing the interview questions/format, reaching out to those 30 customers, conducting the interviews, and harvesting the answers/results. Define a rough timing of when those activites should happen, so that you can actually meet the time you specified in the milestone (Fields „July“; „Aug“; „Sep“;) Fourth, there is the field resources. For every activity you do, you usually need resources (sometimes it can only be human brainpower). You should lay this out here. Think of every possible resource you need (for our example, it can be guidelines on how to do interviews, help of someone else to reach your customers, an online survey tool, etc.). Also think about the resources the SIA Incubation offers your ranging from your mentor to the webinars.
